my wedding look/audrina partridge's birthday party look.

ugh, you beauties are going to be so mad at me, but i forgot to take pictures of my look for my cousin's (beautiful) wedding this past weekend.

however, it was inspired by a picture i saw of audrina patridge's look for birthday party on 5/17. i also went for voluminous hair, bronzed skin, pewter eyes, and beige lips (and i think i looked just as good as audrina).

where i got my nails done:
dashing diva west upper west side (the "elle" of a pedicure is unreal!)

what i used on my hair:
blow hair care beach blow texturing mist coupled with some serious teasing to give my stick-straight hair some care-free volume.

what i used on my skin:
covergirl trublend liquid makeup in soft honey
three custom color specialists creme concealer in #3
givenchy prismissme mat&glow limited edition in #72
three custom color specalists creme to powder blush in rebecca's favorite

what i used on my eyes:
MAC's paint pot in gold mode (part of the fafi collection)
therapy systems eyeshadow in mykonos
prescriptives false eyelashes plush lash mascara in plush black

what i used on my lips:
prescriptives deluxe lip pencil in nutmeg
MAC's lipglass in young spark

if any of my family members sends me a pic, i'll be sure to put it up. in the meantime, assume that i looked exactly like audrina at the nuptials.

prescriptives fall color collection revealed.

when i first learned that prescriptives was already releasing the details of their fall color collection, entitled daring, my first thought was, "why are makeup releases turning into christmas - gradually showing up earlier and earlier each year?"

but my second thought, after seeing the (to die for) promo image was that i couldn't have the collection soon enough (and also, "can i become that woman?"). the collection offers the perfect balance of a poised look, spiked with a hint of exotic, with sapphire and amethyst tones. this is a godsend for any young working woman who wants to look professional and sexy simultaneously. the soft neutrals for cheeks, and the noted absence of any lip products in the collection, are the backdrop for a disarming eye look.

to see a complete listing of the products and shades being offered visit the beauty addict. i particularly cannot get enough of plum sparks limited edition spark eye pencil ($17.50) and plum lash envy volumizing marcara ($19.50) - the combo is unreal. but alas, you will have to wait until july to get your eyes looking this smokin', when the collection will be released nationwide.

correction from original post: this collection will be released in july 2008.

good in bed, 'nough said!

as many of you regular readers know, i live with the boyfriend. which i absolutely love, but being the product maven that i am, i prefer going to bed looking like some sort of very unsexy zombie with deep moisture treatments and eye creams encasing me than like the beautiful girl he met. i don't want to give up my night routine (and future good skin!), but i also want to still be gorgeous and glowing around him as often as possible.

and prescriptives, as usual, has heard my prayers (i love you guys!).

their newest night moisturizer, good in bed, has serious replenishing and wrinkle-reducing properties, but it combines them with subtle tanners and light reflecting optics that make the skin look glow-tastic. rather than going to bed a pasty mess, i look like a golden goddess (sans makeup)! it's pretty win-win. $65 at prescriptives.com and prescriptives counters nationwide.

skin-provements.

lately my skin has been the topic of conversation, in a good way. my skin is a constant struggle for me, i usually break out around the chin/jawline, then in the winter i get some dry patches on the cheeks, and the pores on my nose can be way too visible (sounds hot, huh?). but recently, my skin has been clear, and people have been taking notice! it would be difficult to credit a single step or product with this new fantasticness, but i think i can trace it back to three things:

1. about a month ago i had a facial with christie at mario badescu - this facial was not all that relaxing, and mario basescu is certainly not the most attractive spa space i've visited, but whatever they do there, it works. my friend heather had highly recommended christie (and heather has divine skin). when i left my skin was super splotchy from the extractions, which christie warned me about, but after three days it cleared beautifully and since then my breakouts have subsided. facials are typically $65, but mine included a vit C add-on which doubled the price, but still not too pricey for a manhattan facial.

2. md skincare powerful sun protection spf 45 sunscreen cream - wearing such a powerful sunscreen everyday is huge. the anti-aging benefits of sunscreen cannot be underestimated. also, this particular sunscreen gives me a perfect radiance, rather than making my skin look greasy. i'm not even entirely sure this product is for faces, but i use it on mine and love it. $45.

3. prescriptives custom blended tinted moisturizer - i've raved about this before here. if you haven't gotten one yet, you aren't looking as good as you could be. this light lotion and amazing coverage and blendability. it is custom made to your specifications, so you just can't go wrong. i wear mine everyday in place of foundation and i've only gotten more compliments on my complexion. $48.50 at bergdorf goodman.

all three of these things are definitely mlm favorites.

prescriptives newest anywear.

this march prescriptives has rolled out the newest product in their anywear line, the multi-purpose makeup stick spf 15.

yes, its only been 6 days, but i'm already in a codependent relationship with mine. this product is so clever - rather than coming in one huge, unwieldy stick it comes as two little chubby purse-friendly sticks. i keep one by my sink (where i get ready in the morning) and one in my bag. i use it to touch up my makeup and cover small blemishes, as well as blend the area around my nose. it can also be used as a foundation. the coverage is the exact level i like, not cakey but still flawless!

finally, it comes in an insanely large array of shades - so even though it's not custom blend you will be able to find your match! two sticks for $35 at your prescriptives counter or prescriptives.com

prescriptives' custom blend tinted moisturizer.

most of you know i'm quite fond of prescriptives' custom blending, but i have to tell that their newest custom blend, tinted moisturizer, is my favorite yet. i had one custom blended for me in november (remember this post?) and i have worn it at 6 out of 7 days since then. i may test a new product for you, but i am truly devoted to this one.

reasons why it's so perfect:

  1. i apply it with my fingers, so it's very little fuss.
  2. it contains moisturizer, so i save a step.
  3. it is totally matched to my skin tone, so unlike most tinted moisturizers i'm not off-color.
  4. i got to choose which add-ins i wanted, so mine contains something that makes me look dewy, but i also mentioned that i'm oily, so the product helps combat oiliness as well. everyone can choose a dry, medium or oily finish as well as various other custom add-ins.
  5. it actually has a fairly good coverage level, but if i need extra coverage in a certain area i paint some of my custom blend foundation on to just that area.
it hit counters on february 1st, 2008, so feel free to head to your local prescriptives counter to have one whipped up for you, i know you are going to thank me!

and, in celebration of this product (and some other gems) mlm now has a new symbol for products that are so good they make it in to our permanent arsenal. tada!

if you see this symbol at the end of a post, you know i have been using the product for over a month and plan to keep using it for years to come!

ever wonder which mascara is for you? not sure if you want thickening, lengthening or 24 hour or spidery? prescriptives helps you find the answer with lashfinder.

four prescriptives mascaras are featured - each with descriptions and accompanying look tutorials. after trying here to stay 24-hour longwear mascara and false eyelashes plush mascara, i know that longwear is right for me. as it turns out, i'm the kind of girl who needs a 24-hour mascara, because i do not re-apply that stuff after i leave in the morning. play with your options here.

prescriptives' technotropics.

it just seemed wrong to talk about the spring collections before the new year. but now that 2008 is here let me just say, spring 2008 looks goooood. all of the collections are different, and many of my product wishes seem to have come true!

prescriptives' spring 2008 collection, technotropics, will be available starting 1/15/07. the collection is full of rose, tangerine and berry tones, with greys and bronzes for eyes.

the most innovative product in the collection are the lip strips ($29.50, shown at left). i have tropical warm - i love how easy it is to wear one color or mix shades. the very creamy blush more or less looks like a must-have as well ($21.50). see the whole line here.

renew your (hungover) skin.

new year. new leaf. before starting any beauty resolutions, refresh your face.

skin is already susceptible to looking dull in the winter, throw in too many cocktails last night, and its time for your very simple, at home, new year facial! prescriptives rocks skin care (that and custom blend, is why i love them) and has the product trio to get your glow back.

  1. prescriptives instant gratification skin renewal peel ($45) - i probably should've figured this out from the "instant gratification" in the name, but this peel only needs to be left on the face for 30 seconds. so no matter how hurried/lazy you are, you can access the benefits of this product. while it's on your skin you will have a very warm/tingling sensation (which i happen to love). then you rinse away to an already brighter face!
  2. prescriptives comfort cream ($38.50) - just go ahead and slather this all over your fresh face. it is divinely smooth and not at all greasy. i promise you will immediately feel amazingly soft.
  3. prescriptives vibrant-C skin brightening eye cream ($38) - this eye cream combats dark circles and puffiness, making eyes look alert and full of jejune. what's not to love?
i just completed this three step process and it was incredibly quick and easy. also, my skin looks fab - the only makeup i'm wearing is mascara and lip gloss, but i'm all a-glow. i'm ready to start making some resolutions! of course there is my old standby: floss more. and naturally, makeup loves me has it's own set of goals and resolutions for 2008 as well. all of your favorite features, including giveaways, breaking new collection announcements, honest product reviews, and so many more fun surprises will be a part of 2008. thank you for reading and happy 2008, beauties!

prescriptives' custom blend lipstick.

here's my perfect red, custom blended by the talented leticia at the bergdorf's prescriptives counter. she used orange, red, black, and sienna tones to create the right hue. first they melt down the colors then they re-harden it and fit it into a lovely (actually two!) silver tube(s). also, i kid you not, a stranger ran up to me in h&m to tell me how great my lipstick looked right after getting it, which is what really sold me on it. here's me before nobu - wearing the lipstick along with prescriptives sunsheen bronzing trio in light and prescriptives lip pencil in nutmeg.

prescriptives' custom blend foundation.

im not sure why i haven't mentioned prescriptives' custom blend foundation yet, perhaps because i had it made the same day as my custom blend bronzer, which was very distracting. back to the foundation, it is seriously my favorite foundation by far. its unofficial motto is "like your skin, only better", which is shockingly true. i paint it on with my foundation brush and my skin looks flawless!

which is why i'm so looking forward to my next custom blend appointment. i'm getting prescriptives' custom blend lipstick tonight at bergdorf's. i'm going to request the perfect red for my skin tone. which works out perfectly, because i'm going on a big date to nobu with the boyfriend wednesday night as a belated birthday gift (for him, not me). expect pictures very soon, beauties!

prescriptives' illuminators and beyond.

oh prescriptives, how'd you get so good? i've got quite a lot to say about the upcoming wonder that is prescriptives.

prescriptives' newest line, the illuminators is meant to give the same glow as candlelight, which is so perfect for the cooler months. it's very christmas in new york.

collection includes:

  • the illuminator all over face color *limited edition* - pressed powder that creates a warm gold.

  • shine envy *limited edition* - color like a lipstick, shine like a lipgloss. available in 4 shades.

  • colorscope lipcolor - silver flecked lipsticks, available in 4 shades.

  • colorscope eyecolor - eyeshadows based in colors like golden olive, black, honey, plum and gunmetal, available in 8 shades, including 3 *limited edition*.

  • moonbeam reflective eyeliner - golden olive based shimmery liners, available in two colors.

and beyond: i happen to know that prescriptives has more great products to come. last week i went to their headquarters for a sneak peak at some of their upcoming early 2008 releases. my lips are zipped, but know that it is looking very exciting. keep your eyes open for more info on that.

my lovely friend and fellow beauty blog network member julia was also in town for the event. the two of us got to enjoy a lovely lunch and chat about our many shared loves, makeup, yoga, wine, and chocolate. visit her at all about the pretty.

prescriptives' custom blend bronzer!

prescriptives is adding to their custom blend line this october with (drum roll, please) a bronzer! a bronzer in october, you say? it's as good a time as any, though, when you consider (sadly) that october is when your pretty summer glow will begin to fade.

i went to bergdorf's to get a preview of this product and the experience was a-maz-ing. in order to make any of their custom blend products, prescriptives uses their signature colorprinting, a process in which a prescriptives makeup artist determines your skin tone and your skin's undertone. my undertones are yellow-orange. this information is especially useful because prescriptives eye and lip colors are organized by undertone shade to ease clients in finding colors that compliment their coloring. once you're colorprinted, the artist makes your perfect bronzer for you right in front of your eyes. you get to decide whether you want shimmer or matte, pressed powder or loose powder, oil-control or moisturizing. i've been wearing mine for the last two weeks, and i'm absolutely addicted. it gives me a perfectly natural glow - not at all glittery and very even. and, perhaps best yet, they keep your color information on file, so if you decide your shade is too light or dark, you can go back for a free color adjustment!

and for all this personal attention? only $45, which includes an adorable (and totally useful) travel-sized mini of your perfect bronzer.

special thanks to sheila and libbie at prescriptives for the preview and image.
