i've found my new day-wear mascara, neutrogena healthy volume mascara. it's gives a very natural (no clumping!) volumization. plus, it makes lashes look super hydrated (it contains all sorts of natural hydrators -- like olive extract, meadowfoam seed and sweet almond). i've been wearing it for the last few days, and i'm hooked because it's that subtle fuller lash look, rather than, "oh, i notice you own mascara".
oh, best yet? it's only $6.99 at target.com (averaging $7.99 in drugstores nationwide).
also, i've learned i'm not alone in this infatuation, celebrity make-up artist, elaine offers, has been using the neutrogena healthy volume mascara on the set of “confessions of a shopaholic" and she said "neutrogena healthy volume mascara is a must have in my makeup kit when on location...just used it on isla fisher during filming of "confessions of a shopaholic"...it volumizes beautifully, while conditioning lashes with olive and almond oil." you know if celeb makeup artists are agreeing with me i've got to be on to something!

MAC's at it again! releasing the hottest and newest, and in true MAC-fashion, keeping their collections focused on a theme. starflash was released yesterday and is a mega-color eye collection, including 12 vibrant shadow shades, 4 kohl power eye pencils and plush lash mascara.
i have yet to try anything but the kohl power eye pencils, which were released for a limited time as part of another collection last fall (smoke signals? blue storm? maybe both?!) and i loved all of them. all four of these colors are must-haves, but if you have blue or grey eyes you just need raven - black liner with intense red pearl, or in a word, captivating.
see all of starflash on the mac site by clicking here.

noir cosmetics has all the makings for a cult following. the entire line is made up of different shades and textures of black eye makeup! the richness that is black mania kohl eyeliner has won my heart. mlm chats creator caroline cohen to get the details on this awe-inspiring line.
1. What inspired you to create Noir cosmetics?
I wanted to create the go-to brand for classic eye makeup. Noir Cosmetics was founded on my personal search for that perfect black eyeliner, a beauty tool that remains a staple in every woman’s makeup bag, and which also happens to be the most enduring fashion and beauty item. There is no color more elegant than black. It is timeless and classic. Is there anything black eyeliner doesn’t go with?
2. When did the line launch?
Noir Cosmetics is brand new on the beauty scene, as we launched in Spring 2008. It is currently available online at www.noircosmetics.com, or by phone at 1-866-760-NOIR.
3. How did you decide which products should be a part of Noir?
We wanted to create a collection of always-in essentials, exclusively in black, that are compatible with every skin tone. The products in the line work perfectly with one another and are truly versatile to create any eye makeup look from start to finish. We wanted to offer our eyeliners in various formulas and textures to offer the choice depending on preference and usage. But the priority is always to offer products of uncompromised quality, and that are extremely easy to use and apply.
4. What is your favorite black eye makeup look?
A rich black eyeliner around the entire eye is a classic technique and always gives a radiant and sensual look.
5. Which is the one product in your line every girl should have in her makeup bag?
A classic black mascara, whether worn solo or as the finishing touch to every look.
thanks, caroline! and beauties, be sure to check out noir cosmetics!

lash technology has been really lashing out!
spinlash and the artemis woman heated double curl gentle heat lash curler are the most novel eyelash contraptions to date. now, i don't think you need either of these things, but since i've gotta keep you up to date on the latest beauty technology, and since new gadgets are always fun, here's 411 on both.
how it works: you can either use your fav mascara or the mascara provided with the product, then press the button on the battery-operated spinlash in order to make it revolve. slowly run it along lashes like a mascara wand to remove clumps and separate lashes.
does it work? yes. but be very careful! i've found if you over-spin your mascara will start to flake off. $14.95 at spinlash.com.
how it works: inspired by the beauty trick of taking a lighter to your lash curler before using it, you turn on this contraption and it warms up in 30 seconds, then use it as your lash curler. this device is smart enough not to get too warm, so it is much safer than the lighter trick, because you can overheat your curler and burn your lashes or eye area (ouch!!!!!!).
does it work? i didn't think the curl was significantly bigger than my regular curler, but i would strongly urge you to use this instead of burning your lashes off. $24.99 at artemiswoman.com.

last week i had the pleasure of having lunch with covergirl's celebrity makeup artist, molly stern, several other beauty bloggers, and some charming ladies from the covergirl cosmetics team. lunch was fantastic and i got an excellent preview of the new covergirl releases to come this july.
but, sooner or later the conversation came around to lashblast, covergirl's newest (and widely acclaimed) mascara. everyone chatted animatedly about how much they absolutely love this product, while i just sat there, slowly slinking under the table.
it wasn't that i hadn't tried the product, i had given lashblast a whirl and i just wasn't a fan. it made me feel like alice in wonderland post-"drink me" bottle. i was totally dwarfed by the incredibly large brush and handle. so it had been moved to my discard pile. but after so much raving at the lunch, i took it out of the pile and gave it another try. still, nothing.
but wait! a few hours later i caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and thought, my lashes look damn good! which mascara am i wearing, again? i don't know if i was initially blinded by the things i didn't like about this product (the size) or if it suddenly looks better after a few hours of wear (is that even possible?) but, i added another layer, and, it turns out, i loved it even more. it layers beautifully without clumping.
so lashblast, even though i never (ever!) fall for a mass brand mascara, you've got me hooked, big brush and all. $7.65 at drugstore.com.

while running around backstage at ny fashion week i saw MAC artist gordon espinet give the models a fresh natural face with electric blue lashes. since then i've been going through a blue mascara thang. which would be totally '80s if it weren't for the fact that new blue'scara look involves a minimalist, healthy glow with the emphasis on the shocking lashes, rather than a caked-on face with a blue shadow for the lashes to get lost in (goodbye, '80s).
my three picks (in ranging shades of blue):
1. kiss me mascara by blinc in dark blue - this follows the "kiss me" original tubing formula, meaning the mascara creates a little dark blue tube around each lash and when you wash them off they look like little blue eyelashes, but don't be afraid, your real lashes stay intact underneath. and it gets the lashes super long. $24.
2. girlactik beauty star lash mascara in denim blue - this is very much a demin blue. if you want a medium toned blue that is not too bold, but still has punch, this is it. $13.
3. cargo super eyes mascara in electric blue - i love bright blue, so i love the cargo electric blue extra. if you are truly going to do a natural look where you want your lashes to grab the eyes of those around you, the cargo is the way to go. $18.

i am not of the philosophy that mascara choice should be taken lightly. i have tried 6 mascaras since the last one i recommended to you. there was nothing wrong with the others, per say. there just wasn't anything extra right about them. i need my mascara to shout to the whole room, "my lashes are seducing you!" my friend amber's lashes do this on their own, but mine need some serious help.
clinique's new lash power mascara long wearing formula is my next big mascara find. i put it on first thing in the am and it lasted all day and into the evening. very curling and blackening, which really makes the blue of my eyes pop (i have the black onyx shade. it is also available in chocolate brown). it's also supposed to be extra waterproof, though i haven't gotten a chance to try this aspect yet. $14 on clinique.com, at clinique counters and sephora.

i've been trying a lot of different mascaras, but i keep coming back to lancome's newest, high définicils - $23.50. as long as i curl my lashes before applying (i've been using the billy b lash curler), this mascara is guaranteed to get me a compliment (something along the lines of "great lashes!" and who doesn't want to hear that?!). it is very lengthening and feathery.
but, no matter what mascara i use, i end up with huge raccoon eyes every evening when i wash my face. fighting these suckers off can be tough and ordinary makeup remover isn't delicate enough for the sensitive eye region. long story short? lancome's bi facil double action eye makeup remover is the only eye makeup remover i ever use. it's $26 and one bottles lasts months.

i was elated when i saw this marcara, it seems like such a good idea. you use the black end for lengthening and the colored end to add a jewel-toned hint of color to the lashes. the visuals on the max factor site show the color added just to the ends, for a quite stunning effect.
however, no matter how many times this week i have tried to add the pink on top, it did not take. my lashes were not noticeably highlighted and it certainly did not give me a smooth, even color like i hoped for. however, i have seen a lot of raves about this mascara. perhaps i'm doing it wrong? on the whole, i'm unimpressed, though the lengthening, black side works well.
max factor is carried in drugstores and the mascara retails for around $10.99.

ever wonder which mascara is for you? not sure if you want thickening, lengthening or 24 hour or spidery? prescriptives helps you find the answer with lashfinder.
four prescriptives mascaras are featured - each with descriptions and accompanying look tutorials. after trying here to stay 24-hour longwear mascara and false eyelashes plush mascara, i know that longwear is right for me. as it turns out, i'm the kind of girl who needs a 24-hour mascara, because i do not re-apply that stuff after i leave in the morning. play with your options here.

i've been having good luck with trying new mascaras for the last few months, and elizabeth arden's ceramide lash extending treatment mascara continues my streak.
this mascara gives the most natural, yet lash enhancing, look i've seen yet. my lashes are still soft (and not all stiff like most mascaras make them) after a thorough application. which is great because i don't have spider lashes, and because my lashes actually feel healthy. the mascara contains ceramide triple complex and keravis (i don't know what either is, but, from the elizabeth arden site i learned that they lengthen, define and revitalize the lashes). i'm definitely feelin' the revitalization.

fact: wet eyelashes look good. "caught in the rain lashes" are the crux of good romantic comedy. when you see your heroine catching a kiss in the rain don't you just think, "damn, her lashes look good?" i do. every time.
lancome's brilliant fatale is a mascara infused with micro-glitter that gives a twinkle coat to lashes. i wore it out and i liked it. a lot. warning: you will be seeing stars.
