my wedding look/audrina partridge's birthday party look.

ugh, you beauties are going to be so mad at me, but i forgot to take pictures of my look for my cousin's (beautiful) wedding this past weekend.

however, it was inspired by a picture i saw of audrina patridge's look for birthday party on 5/17. i also went for voluminous hair, bronzed skin, pewter eyes, and beige lips (and i think i looked just as good as audrina).

where i got my nails done:
dashing diva west upper west side (the "elle" of a pedicure is unreal!)

what i used on my hair:
blow hair care beach blow texturing mist coupled with some serious teasing to give my stick-straight hair some care-free volume.

what i used on my skin:
covergirl trublend liquid makeup in soft honey
three custom color specialists creme concealer in #3
givenchy prismissme mat&glow limited edition in #72
three custom color specalists creme to powder blush in rebecca's favorite

what i used on my eyes:
MAC's paint pot in gold mode (part of the fafi collection)
therapy systems eyeshadow in mykonos
prescriptives false eyelashes plush lash mascara in plush black

what i used on my lips:
prescriptives deluxe lip pencil in nutmeg
MAC's lipglass in young spark

if any of my family members sends me a pic, i'll be sure to put it up. in the meantime, assume that i looked exactly like audrina at the nuptials.

bright lights, big color monday - nars.

some makeup lines didn't need to create any special products to accommodate the bright color trend, because big color is just a part of their identity - and nars definitely falls into this category. below i've selected my favorite bold, yet wearable shades from their colorful line:

capucine lip lacquer is described as a sheer tangerine. and that is a very good thing - because orange is huge for lips, cheeks and nails this summer. while capucine lip lacquer definitely creates an orange lip, it also has a soft hint of pink, giving a pretty, punchy color. simply pair with a shimmering neutral shadow and a black liquid liner for compliments all day long (or night long, this look can work for either). $24.

nars' considers bloodwork lip gloss to be a red vinyl, and it absolutely true to form. most red glosses have just a hint of color and have way too much pink in them, but not so with bloodwork. it is a true blue-based, color rich and vinyl-esque gloss. if you want to channel dita von teese or gwen stefani's vixen lips, there is no easier or better match. $24.

cactus flower cream blush is a shimmering poppy. now, if you want to sell me a product this summer, describe it as poppy colored (or orange) and i'm all over it. you might as well just take the money from my wallet now. poppy is in bloom, in a big way. it brings color and life to fairer skin tones. $24.

crazed blush, a raspberry red with shimmer, is one of my seasoned favorites. i have always been crazed over crazed. this color is definitely not for someone who likes a subtle look and please, please, please, be light-handed in your application. with those warnings in mind, and now beauties i would never lie to you, and men love it when i wear this blush. each time i've worn it a man has complimented my face! $25.

kitty eyeliner pencil is a turquoise blue and is the right single step to achieve summer's bright eye trend, blue rimmed eyes. contrary to popular belief, blue liner is great for blue eyes, as long as their is contrast between the shades of blue. since this blue is so different from the grey-blue hue of my peepers, it really accentuates my color. $20.

all featured products are part of the regular nars color line, available at narscosmetics.com and sephora.com.

neon lips.

this summer's hottest beauty trend will be neon lips, paired with bronzed skin and shimmery neutral shadow. neon lips can be very pretty and dare i say? almost subtle. this is largely because the formulas we are seeing for this summer are sheer.

your best bright lip bets?

1. three custom color specialists' light brights. these four lipsticks haunt my dreams because they capture the summer trend so perfectly - sheer, but true neons. the shades are named after former nyc nightlife hot spots: palladium (hot pink), limelight (day-glo peachy pink), danceteria (neon coral), area (flaming tangerine). $18.50 at threecustom.com.

2. shu uemura's rouge unlimited crystal shine in iridescent white. worn on it's own it's a milky soft pink, but you layer it and turn almost any shade into a sheer neon, or at least closer to it. $23.00 at shuuemura-usa.com.

3. givenchy's pop gloss crystal in ibiza pink. if you are looking for a marriage of hot pink and very glossy (with a healthy dose of sparkle) this is it. $23.50 at sephora.com.

glossy neons are mlm's favorite summer trend, and these lipsticks and glosses have been put to the test and achieved the trend spectacularly.

givenchy summer escapade '08.

some makeup is so carefully crafted that it looks like art. and givenchy has that art down to a science. their summer escapade 2008 collection, makes me simultaneously desperate for summer so that i can justify diving into these palettes everyday and dreading how summer will lead to the destruction of their artful beauty via my playing with them.

just looking at this collection makes me escape to a world of shimmers and bronze.
the collection (and my thoughts):

prisme again! eyes in 10 summer escapade - $49.50
*four shades of iridescent magic*

prismissime mat & glow in 71 natural and 72 sunny - $53
*sun-kissed bliss in a mix and match, matte and shimmer, format*

tan to go in 01 sandy tan and 02 amber tan - $45
*spray paint your way to a safe tan*

pop gloss crystal in tahiti coral and ibiza pink - $23.50
*true, shiny summer glosses*

glitter to go fresh'n shine body gel - $35
*10 singlets of body shimmer, filled with pink and gold tones to attract the eye and erase imperfections*

available at sephora and givenchy.com (though the summer collection is not yet listed on their site).

lancome partners with christopher kane on the newest juicy tubes.

lancôme has pioneered the fashion designer/makeup line collaboration concept, starting with the revolutionary pout-a-porter series. and now, they're stepping it up. lancôme has unveiled its biggest fashion world collaboration to date: the juicy tubes world tour with designer christopher kane.

kane is a london-based emerging design sensation. his collection for lancôme, the juicy tubes world tour, includes nine new, vibrant, gloss shades, each embellished with an illustration by kane, inspired by international travels.

so without further ado, the shades:

  • red hot new york
  • fifth avenue frosting
  • copacabana coffee
  • rio mango
  • grand café crème brûlée
  • moulin rose
  • paris bubbly
  • tokyo plum blossom
  • peach mochi
and as a new york girl, i'm loving my red hot new york. it's a pretty orangy-red sheer gloss.

the new juicy tubes are available at lancome-usa.com, the five lancôme boutiques, specialty stores and counters nationwide. suggested retail price: $18.00.

plump it up!

when a peacock is on the move for a mate they puff up the plumage. since victoria's secret is the ultimate moderately-priced retail for those on the move for a mate i've been investigating two of their "plumage"-plumping attraction devices from their beauty department - very voluptuous lip plumper and very voluptuous ultimate bust plumper.

the lip plumper has that requisite lip plumper tingle that either you love or loathe. it stings a little, which i like, but i know isn't for everyone. i have "hot pink" which is a vibrant pink that i would put at a shade below "hot". does it plump though? yes, yes, it does. $18.

the bust plumper is my favorite idea ever - the only thing is i have to be incredibly careful not to mix it up with regular lotion, because i do not want to get plump everywhere. i have only been using it for a couple of days, it smells great, but i haven't noticed any change yet. however, product testers saw a difference in two weeks! so, i'm going to keep using it, can't hurt right? (as long as i don't' get it on my thighs...). $26.

valentine's day gloss picks.

one of these things is not like the other ones.

a shiny kissable lip is a valentine's day essential. i have a cherry gloss for you in every price range, but only one rose. it appears rose is the rare flower of gloss.

for cherry:
1. stila cherry crush lip and cheek stain - $24 (bottom right)
2. l'oreal colour juice sheer juicy lip gloss in cherry on top - about $6.99 (top right)
3. nyc kiss gloss in cherry - $2.99 (bottom left)

for rose:
1. lancome color fever plumper in suggestive - $28 (top left). all the color fever glosses have the signature lancome rose fragrance.

for rose and cherry?

korres cherry full colour gloss ($16, near left) is a cherry-scented, moisturizing lip gloss that comes in a range of colors from bright cherry tones to paler rose hues.
warning: the scent is intoxicating.

nars' shanghai lily product review.

using high sheen nudes to contour the face, cheeks and eyes is what makeup is all about right now. and not one to miss the trends, i've been working on my perfect contoured eye.

despite the semi-goth promo picture for the nars spring collection (which i still love), shanghai lily is actually comprised of mostly neutrals. after swatching the alahambra eyeshadow duo ($31), i could not believe the amazing sheen of both colors, without being at all glittery or sparkly. the two colors can work together to create a contoured eye by putting the color on the right side of compact on the lid and the color on the left in the crease. then just a add a little black liquid liner at the lash line for depth. the look is super neat and crisp.

i have been rocking it for the last two weeks, coupled with the stolen kisses/pampa lip gloss/lip stain gloss ($28). at first glance i thought this lip stain/gloss set would be waaaay too dark for me, but is the perfect compliment to my light skin and auburn hair. oh, and i have, of course, i have been finishing this look with the multiple in orgasm ($36.50). it is the perfect look to wear to la office and to carry you into a glamorous evening.

all products mentioned are available at narscosmetics.com and sephora.

nars the multiple and lip gloss: in orgasm.

the release of the nars multiple in orgasm was a highly anticipated and punned-upon occasion.

the multiple is a cream stick highlight that can be used on cheeks, eyes, body, etc.

orgasm is nars' hit, "universally flattering", blush color.

while i enjoyed the powder blush form of orgasm, i didn't loooove it as much as some people. well, now that i've tried the multiple, i'm happy to say i do loooove this version. while orgasm gives a peachy, somewhat beachy, glow, i actually think it works better as a winter color than a summer color. i've been feeling a bit dull/pale lately. turns out highlighting my cheeks with orgasm was just the thing i needed to change that.

the orgasm lip gloss is sweet and girly and not at all sticky. perfect for an everyday look. my favorite not-so-everyday lip gloss is also nars. babe is a shiny orange red that brightens the face and helps make you the talk of your (holiday) party.

nars products are available at sephora and at narscosmetics.com

lancome's color fever gloss in volcanic pink.

if i were a product, i would probably be lancome's color fever gloss in volcanic pink.

it's smooth. it's vibrant. it's shiny. and it has a soft enough effect so that it's not too 80's. (ok, i'm not sure i'm any of those things). but this gloss just makes me feel so pretty!

also, i don't know how lancome does this, but all of it's lip products smell so good. they have a vaguely rose scent which is so feminine and classic, *sigh*.
