covergirl's trublend 2.0.

covergirl's trublend was the first foundation that i ever wore as part of a daily routine. i wore it everyday senior year of college, and i looked damn good. the formula was creamy and easy to blend, so i would just spread it on with my fingers and walk out the door with a even-toned glow.

fast forward a few years, i discovered prescriptives custom blending and didn't look back. but this spring i heard the rumors that trublend had been reformulated and mixed feedback about the new formula. even though i no longer used the product daily, i was wistfully sad to see one of my old favorites lost for ever.

however, upon trying the "new" formula, i'm not even sure what's so new about it! it had all the great qualities that i know and loved from the original, the only difference i decipher is the formula is a bit more liquidy, which is a good thing because the old one could get a bit tacky (like sticky, not like paris hilton).

so if you've spent the last few months hearing me rave about prescriptive's custom blend, and you're thinking "damnit mlm, give me something that looks great that i can actually afford", try out covergirl's trublend foundation, available at drugstores for around $8.99.

erth minerals.

animal, vegetable or mineral?

i never thought this would be how i would start grouping my newest product finds, but with all the great animal hair brushes, the moisturizers with fantastic vegetable extracts and the growing world of mineral makeup, how can i resist?

erth minerals falls into the third category - definitely mineral. if you are new to mineral makeup i recommend trying out the following two products (they are good introduction into what the world of minerals can offer):

1. moth veil powder - this mineral powder gives a the flawless finish i always want from a powder but am unable to get from the non-mineral variety. as far as i can tell this item only comes in one shade, which made me a bit concerned, but it worked for me! $11.

2. intense eyeshadow collection - if you love a vibrant, long-wearing shadow, you can't go wrong with these. though it may seem counter-intuitive, mineral shadows have more color intensity. $6 a piece.

see all their offerings and decide if you are going to embrace mineral makeup at erthminerals.com.

march showers bring spring powders.

soon it's going to be spring (i just keep telling myself that...)! and in the spring i like to switch to powder to for my overall face coverage. it's lighter and it helps to absorb oil. for spring 2008 two new fabulous powders are on the market and i've been lucky enough to try both.

clinique's almost powder makeup spf 15 is a very lightweight formula. it comes with it's own sponge, but please use a powder brush to apply! available in 9 easily matchable shades ( i have neutral fair), with a large variety for fair skin tones - $22.50

urban decay's surreal skin universal mineral powder is buildable. you can quickly swipe around your face for light coverage or work it with a brush for a more thorough flawless look. great mineral glow in 8 shades (i have dream) for $29.00

prescriptives newest anywear.

this march prescriptives has rolled out the newest product in their anywear line, the multi-purpose makeup stick spf 15.

yes, its only been 6 days, but i'm already in a codependent relationship with mine. this product is so clever - rather than coming in one huge, unwieldy stick it comes as two little chubby purse-friendly sticks. i keep one by my sink (where i get ready in the morning) and one in my bag. i use it to touch up my makeup and cover small blemishes, as well as blend the area around my nose. it can also be used as a foundation. the coverage is the exact level i like, not cakey but still flawless!

finally, it comes in an insanely large array of shades - so even though it's not custom blend you will be able to find your match! two sticks for $35 at your prescriptives counter or prescriptives.com

prescriptives' custom blend tinted moisturizer.

most of you know i'm quite fond of prescriptives' custom blending, but i have to tell that their newest custom blend, tinted moisturizer, is my favorite yet. i had one custom blended for me in november (remember this post?) and i have worn it at 6 out of 7 days since then. i may test a new product for you, but i am truly devoted to this one.

reasons why it's so perfect:

  1. i apply it with my fingers, so it's very little fuss.
  2. it contains moisturizer, so i save a step.
  3. it is totally matched to my skin tone, so unlike most tinted moisturizers i'm not off-color.
  4. i got to choose which add-ins i wanted, so mine contains something that makes me look dewy, but i also mentioned that i'm oily, so the product helps combat oiliness as well. everyone can choose a dry, medium or oily finish as well as various other custom add-ins.
  5. it actually has a fairly good coverage level, but if i need extra coverage in a certain area i paint some of my custom blend foundation on to just that area.
it hit counters on february 1st, 2008, so feel free to head to your local prescriptives counter to have one whipped up for you, i know you are going to thank me!

and, in celebration of this product (and some other gems) mlm now has a new symbol for products that are so good they make it in to our permanent arsenal. tada!

if you see this symbol at the end of a post, you know i have been using the product for over a month and plan to keep using it for years to come!

prescriptives' custom blend foundation.

im not sure why i haven't mentioned prescriptives' custom blend foundation yet, perhaps because i had it made the same day as my custom blend bronzer, which was very distracting. back to the foundation, it is seriously my favorite foundation by far. its unofficial motto is "like your skin, only better", which is shockingly true. i paint it on with my foundation brush and my skin looks flawless!

which is why i'm so looking forward to my next custom blend appointment. i'm getting prescriptives' custom blend lipstick tonight at bergdorf's. i'm going to request the perfect red for my skin tone. which works out perfectly, because i'm going on a big date to nobu with the boyfriend wednesday night as a belated birthday gift (for him, not me). expect pictures very soon, beauties!
