i've found my new day-wear mascara, neutrogena healthy volume mascara. it's gives a very natural (no clumping!) volumization. plus, it makes lashes look super hydrated (it contains all sorts of natural hydrators -- like olive extract, meadowfoam seed and sweet almond). i've been wearing it for the last few days, and i'm hooked because it's that subtle fuller lash look, rather than, "oh, i notice you own mascara".
oh, best yet? it's only $6.99 at target.com (averaging $7.99 in drugstores nationwide).
also, i've learned i'm not alone in this infatuation, celebrity make-up artist, elaine offers, has been using the neutrogena healthy volume mascara on the set of “confessions of a shopaholic" and she said "neutrogena healthy volume mascara is a must have in my makeup kit when on location...just used it on isla fisher during filming of "confessions of a shopaholic"...it volumizes beautifully, while conditioning lashes with olive and almond oil." you know if celeb makeup artists are agreeing with me i've got to be on to something!
remember a million years ago when i was going to meet cory kennedy? well, here i am with goddess cory (have i ever looked shorter?).
my question for cory: how was working with sebastian different than working with urban decay? cory's answer: "it was a lot different. um, this time i liked the product."
and what product is she referring to? why it's sebastian's whipped cream. cory appears in several ads this month showcasing how this versatile product can achieve several different textures of voluminous looks.
once fashion week finally ends i plan to give this supposed miracle whip a try!
i am left speechless because of my love for blair waldorf. i don't even think this post can do it any proper justice, but let's just cover a few quick things. everyone's hair was bangin' for the entire episode (except chuck bass, who the hell decided to give him that side part?!) the white party was a vision of summer clothes and makeup just working. but best of all was blair's look at the white party. i think i need that dress. thank you, team sugar, for scooping that it is in fact marc by marc jacobs from spring/summer 2008 ready-to-wear. i will spending the rest of my last nite of summer trying to hunt it down. you know you love me, x o x o.
calvin klein's newest fragrance, secret obsession, is slotted to be released this fall, with eva mendes as the spokesmodel for the fragrance. meanwhile, the over-the-top (in some censors' opinions, anyway) sexual advertising for the scent (which can be viewed here) is already creating quite the stir - and since i love controversy and sexual advertising, i'm all about it.
as for the scent itself? "the fragrance has top notes of exotic plum, mace and rose de damas; a heart of egyptian jasmine, french orange flower and tuberose, and base notes of cashmere woods, burnt amber, madagascan vanilla and australian sandalwood".
and have i tried the new scent? i received a limited edition secret obsession scented bracelet - so i've only gotten the smallest taste - but it's sweet, sensual and heavy scent is perfect for fall/winter. plus, did i mention there's sexual advertising involved?
this is one of my absolute favorite pictures in the world about the power of liquid liner. taken during the epic summer when brad left jen for angie, then brad and angie did this crazy 1950's style photo shoot in w magazine that still haunts me, mostly because her liner just looks so damn good.
after several (failed) attempts to recreate angelina jolie's eyeliner look i had a realization, an epiphany if you will - you just need two products to do this, there is no way around it.
to start i line the entire eye with stila's liquid eye liner, which is basically a sharpie that puts out eyeliner instead of permanent marker. i use it to really shape the look and get the under and inner eye areas precise. $16.
then, i fill in the top and outer areas, which need something much thicker. so i go in with shiseido's accentuating cream eyeliner in deep black. this gives it the look the thick, tarry depth it needs, without getting crumbly. $25.
then, i just put on a cute 50's style dress and people mistake me for angelina jolie (well, not yet, but...)
so yesterday's MAC collection story, starflash, was about eyes, meaning this collection is all about ...lips (and nails). lustre twins is mainly comprised of pro longwear lustre lipcolour - what's that you ask? some sort of double-ended lip color, where one side is lightweight color and the other is shiny topcoat. there are nine shades, most with a redness involved. also, part of lustre twins are 3 frosty nail polishes. the whole release reminds me of some mix of valentine's day and dita von teese. in fact, they totally should've had dita do the promo image for it. see all the sex appeal of lustre twins here.
i have 4 exams this week. 4. instead of looking glam, i'm ripping my hair out.
but rather than studying ventilation/perfusion, i find myself mesmerized with makeupgeek, a youtube makeup phenomena. this girl can do anything makeup related - all in fun, didactic video form. her re-creation of the kim kardashian makeup look is flawlessly executed. enjoy!
if you want to get yourself trapped by hours of alluring makeup tutorials visit her youtube channel. i can't get enough of her.
i don't usually write about my celebrity sightings (mainly because i don't ever have any), but i'm 99% sure that i saw i saw adrian grenier this weekend at fire island. the boyfriend and i were walking on the beach when we came upon him. i'm a big fan of entourage, but i was too shocked to say anything to him. i never see anyone famous!
how did you spend your independence day weekend beauties?
it's official -- y'all loved blair's look at the van der woodsen/bass wedding (43% of you voted for her look, followed by 19% for that demonic georgina's smoky eye).
blair's makeup at the wedding was rosy and sweet, rather than overly complicated (like her dear friend serena, who looked like some sort of runway show gone awry). the emphasis of blair's look was on a gorgeous flush for cheeks and lips. this is a very current look, and especially handy if you are attending a june wedding.
to get those glowy cheeks:
everyone knows about tarte cheekstain, but i prefer one of their newer formula, natural cheekstain. this sheer stain gives a berry-kissed glow. this version is also filled with natural ingredients for a super-natural looking flush. $28 at tartecosmetics.com.
to get those rosy lips:
lancome's icon is the rose. now they color fever lipstick roses, to honor that emblem. a collection of 5 rose hued lipsticks, the color fever lipsticks roses are creamy, dreamy and (no matter what your coloring) they have your perfect rose lip shade (i myself am v. partial to rose tempest). like all lancome lipsticks, they are also rose-scented, which i happen to love about them. $25 apiece at lancome-usa.com.
did you agree to host cocktails for your girlfriends before going to the s&tc premier tonight? do you have no idea how to make a cosmo, manhattan or any other appropriate drink? well, i've found you a drink recipe that couldn't be easier.
NUVO sparkling cosmo - NUVO sparkling liquer an ounce of grand marnier a splash of lime juice stirred and served in a martini glass
i'm going to be making my first NUVO sparkling cosmo this weekend, so i can't tell you if they're any good, but celebrity fans of NUVO include kim kardashian and fabulous (and i enjoy both of those people immensely).
NUVO is available at liquor stores in florida, arizona and new york and will be available nationwide beginning june 1, 2008. it can also be purchased online at www.sparklingnuvo.com.
kim catrall's makeup artist, kyra panchenko, says of samantha's look for the movie:
"I was going for a "California girl" look for Kim. Her character Samantha moves to LA so, I kept her pretty tanned and bronzed. Kim went through loads of Wipes (MAC's remover wipes) to remove her body make-up each day and loved how gentle they were on her skin.
sarah jessica parker's makeup artist - judy chin - is ready to spill some of the beauty secrets used for the hotly anticipated film sex & the city movie. for sjp, judy chin says there was no one look for this movie (since the girl gets changed so damn much!), but that:
"one thing that I always wanted to be present for her was a natural beauty that didn't look like makeup. I tried to keep her eyes the focus by creating a strong, yet natural, lashline and I always framed her eyes with beautiful lashes. A healthy rosy flush to her cheeks, a soft mouth and clean healthy skin that had a natural glow and shine to it."
