the difference between UVA and UVB rays.

{protects from UVA and UVB}

one aveeno's passions is sun protection -- the brand believes in getting out the word about skin cancer prevention and screening.  because of this, they gave me, and other bloggers, the opportunity to have one my sunscreen quandaries answered by a dermatologist.

even though we all know how important sunscreen is, it's sometimes hard to know which one is best, or what all the different abreviations mean.  SPF?  UVA? UVB?  WTF??!

dr. susan taylor from society hill dermatology in philadelphia answers my burning question - "what's the difference between UVA and UVB coverage?".

she writes:
UVA coverage blocks the longer rays from the sun (wavelength 315-400) and UVB coverage blocks the shorter burning rays (280-315). Both rays are potentially harmful.

there you have it - so you need a sunscreen that tackles both for maximum protection.  thanks, aveeno!
