my versace makeover with covergirl.

{the look pat mcgrath created for donatella versace}
{me, rocking said runway look}

sometimes when i'm backstage at a fashion show reporting on the next season's makeup trends, i want to plomp myself down in the makeup artist's chair and declare "my turn!"

this past week i had the opportunity to do pretty much that during a covergirl event where pat mcgrath, acclaimed celebrity makeup artist, recapped all the major backstage trends she created with covergirl this past season.  pat's assistants were on hand to re-create those looks -- and i was all over the look from the versace show.

"smoke and mirrors"  was the name pat selected for the many variations on the smoky eye seen backstage.  the versace version is particularly smoldering. here are the tips i was able to pick up for recreating the look:
  • smoky eyes pair well with contoured blush.  pat insists blush is better than bronzer when it comes to everyday contouring.
  • to add dimension to this very black shadow use a shimmery brown right in middle of the eye crease, not too close to the inner corner or outside of the eye.  my awesome makeup artist, rocky, used brown bling intense shadow blast
  • for an eye with this much shadow (i'm wearing about a pound of smoke alarm eye enhancer in this photo) complete the eye look before moving on to the skin. once the shadow is completely finished use makeup remover to clean off cheeks, and then get started on the foundation.
