nail trends for fall 2012, interview with a MAC artist.

{M·A·C Cosmetics Senior Artist Keri Blair - @MAC_Keri_B}
beauties, i take my nails very seriously.  since MAC has a huge presence at fashion week (on an international level), i asked senior artist keri blair a few questions about the trends for this fall.

1. what are the nail art trends for fall 2012?
 be on the lookout for graphic statements, especially thinned out lines around the edge of the nail, color blocking and moon manicures done in glitter or holograms. you will also see a big focus on textures using velvet, suede and beads to give dimension to the nails and hands.

2. which nail looks are over?
 taking inspiration from the street, you will notice that nail art is extremely accessible to everyone, everywhere.  finding a look that is not "in" is tough for me, the white french manicure and thick square shape are a bit dated.

3. what nail look that you saw backstage at NYFW for fall/winter 2012 do you think should be replicated at home?
 i absolutely love the idea of velvet nails and a little black dress. try using a deep jewel toned polish - i like M·A·C Cosmetics Nail Lacquer in dark angel.   you can then source a similar deep violet shade of flocking powder at your local craft store or on-line.  apply two coats of nail lacquer to each nail, and while the top coat is still wet, sprinkle and press a generous coat of flocking powder over your nail. repeat on each nail until all 10 are covered.  it’s not practical for a week's wear, but they are the ultimate conversation piece for a night out on the prowl.
