approximately every 6 months i tailspin into a panic where i'm convinced i'm getting wrinkles. "omg, i'm in my late 20s now, i have to take my skincare regimen seriously. what's going on my forehead?! wrinkles? baby wrinkles? proto-wrinkles? is this because i raise my eyebrows all.the.time.? why can't i stop making that face?! also, argghh!!!"
this time around my strategy involves neutrogena dermatologics retinol nx serum as my bedtime treatment. dermatologists currently recommend a retinol treatment at night and sunscreen during the day. this non-prescription retinol treatment helps turn over cells and minimize signs of aging, without being as drying or harsh as the prescription stuff. it goes on smooth and smells vaguely sweet. i haven't had any redness or irritation.

news flash! nails inc has crossed the pond (that's the phrase, yes?) and is now being sold in sephora.
the british brand names it's shades after english landmarks -- meaning i get zero of the references. but what i do know is that their special effects polishes are available stateside - including a royal purple crackle (hoxton purple crackle) and flamingo pink crackle (islington pink crackle). just when i thought i'd had enough of the crackle trend, nails inc gives it the perfect twist!
check them out in sephora stores and on sephora.com.

genius little fall products are cropping up everywhere, so as much as i'm trying to indulge in the last days of summer, autumn has me tempted.
for their formidable fall line, hard candy has combined my two favorite eye items - black liquid liner on one end and lash growth serum on the other. walk the line eyeliner duo provides black along the lashline for day, and clear to make lashes grow at bedtime.
i love me some hard candy, but when the brand first moved to walmart i was not impressed with their liquid liners. however, this one uses a new formula - with amino acids and proteins - for a deep, lash enhancing black. this liner is good, and i'm a girl who knows a thing or two about liquid liner. since testing lash growth serum takes several weeks, so no word yet on how well that end of the wand works. but for $7 (exclusive to walmart) you cannot go wrong. i will not be traveling without it this fall.
if you are stopping in walmart be sure to also grab hard candy's blush crush baked blush -- i keep shattering these but they give the best non-glittery sheen to cheeks ever!

becca's lost weekend collection embodies effortless sex appeal -- according to me. the brand describes it as paying homage to the australian right of passage, a road trip to the great beyond. either way this mix of tans, caramels, chocolates and dusty pinks has me spellbound.
staying true to the brand's quest for ethereal beauty and flawless skin - lost weekend includes mineral foundations and a mineral bronzer (in serrana) to create a soft glow. then build on the subtle color - with mineral blush, eye tints and lip tints and glosses. the collection even includes 3 nail colors for a oh-so-finished look.
this sexiness is perfect for fall. get into it beauties! see the full collection at beccacosmetics.com.

beauties, if my twitter hasn't already told you, i'm spending my vacation week in coastal rhode island visiting with my parents. upon arriving i presented my mom with the newest products from her favorite niche skincare brand - neova - for her to test out. from the way she shrieked with delight you would have thought i had given her gold bars! ever since testing out some of neova's products in february (read here) - my mom is totally smitten with the brand.
ps - look out for more reviews come from my mom herself of her neova favorites.

beauties, rimmel volume accelerator is it's weight in gold, let alone it's $9.99 price tag on ulta.
this mass brand mascara has the length, curl and separation of lashes that makes any mascara into a gem, but what i love about it is how glossy/wet the formula goes on lashes! there is something so standout about shiny lashes -- long time readers know that i think there is no better mix of subtle and dramatic than "caught in the rain" lashes.
plus, the adorable zooey denschanel is the spokeswoman for the brand. her makeup works perfectly between playful and put-together. i'm giddy to see her this fall in the new girl!

beauties, after working non-stop all summer long, i finally have a week off- which means it's time for my summer to begin! i'm ignoring that hint of fall in the air, and struggling to fight my urge to get involved in fall trends. instead of clinging to the scents and trends that give me the carefree feeling of summer, like carol's daughter monoi repairing shampoo, conditioner and mask.
the monoi products smell like the tropics - a mix of monoi, hibiscus and coconut, which leave me with a hint of island breeze in my hair all day long. the formula is light - gently cleansing hair without stripping it. it's also free of parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, or artificial color, for those of concerned with that sort of thing.
$18 for the shampoo, $20 for the conditioner, and $29 for the mask at carolsdaughter.com. and now, without further ado, i'm heading to the beach in rhode island.

bobbi brown has added 15 shades of high shimmer lip gloss to their offerings - and like everything bobbi does, it's the perfect mix of fun and ladylike.
rather than being chalked full of overt glitter, this glosses have a pearl base for a more luminescent shine. the formula also contains vitamins C and E to prevent the drying sensation some super shiny glosses create. the end result is something of a subtle bling and very kissable lips.

qvc has a philosophy club, not the kind where you discuss socrates, but the sort where a unique philosophy 3-in-1 (body wash, shampoo, and bubble bath) is offered each month to fit the mood of the season.
august is maraschino cherry lemonade - a sweet and tart concoction that has me longing for an indian summer. only 2 more weeks to get this 3-in-1 before it becomes a distant memory, like walks on the beach or drinks on a rooftop. be sure to check qvc next month to see what september brings. my money's on something with apples.
$20 for 24 ounces at qvc.com.
a special thank you to my friend amber for nominating me to receive the august body wash!

i can already feel the hint of fall in the air, which means my mind is on wardrobe, wardrobe, wardrobe. as always, this fall i'm striving for the perfect mix of professional and sexy, and what i've learnd is the best way to feel sexy in a professional outfit is with the right underthings.
little known fact about me: i pretty much collect underwear. i will pick up cute bras and underwear as souvenirs when i travel, and something i've noticed from visiting spain and france is that european lingerie companies, like ann summers lingerie, is their bras fit a bit snugger - which i happen to love. if you feel like your american cup size is too roomy, i definitely encourage you to go european.
once you have the right fit, you need the right style. the combination of the two is what makes for the perfect level of confidence. with a tasteful amount of lace or satin adorning the undergarments ,you can slip on your professional button down shirt and your pencil skirt and know that you're still one sexy lady. this is where the sexy lingerie at ann summers really does it for me - not all european lingerie is sexy (counter intuitive as that may be), but they have a variety that rivals victoria's secret.
so, get playful this fall, beauties!

beauties, i love liquid liner, in the same way that i love espresso, glitter heels, and fancy chocolate. it is a deep love, and nobody does liquid liner better than urban decay. recently the brand has updated their celebrated liquid eyeliners to make them part of their 24/7 collection.
when i started blogging urban decay liquid liners came in a edgy, gritty-looking tube, which was replaced by an apothecary-esque ink pot, and now it's back in a tube - but this tube is much sleeker than it's previous iteration. throughout all this time beauty insiders have considered it urban decay to be the best liquid liner for it's each to use, good color pay out (with an excellent variety of shades) and the brush which always given the perfect line width (especially if you like a winged liner look).
comparing the urban decay 24/7 waterproof liquid eyeliner compare to those that came before it:
1. the color selection has been edited - some of my favorites remain (hello smog!), some are gone (RIP roach), and some new colors have arrived (what's up, woodstock?!)
2. while i preferred the ink pots esthetically, there's no denying this little tubes are more convenient.
3. the two most celebrated qualities of the urban decay liquid liner - the brush and the formula - seem mostly unchanged. while the liner is now longer lasting and waterproof, it still goes smoothly and does not fan or streak.
the shades (all tubes are color coordinated to their shade):
- bobby dazzle - sparkly, bright pearl
- demolition - deep, matte brown
- el dorado - sparkly, canary gold
- perversion - carbon black
- radium - bright, sparkly blue
- retrograde - glittery, deep purple
- revolver - sparkly, dark grey
- sabbath - deep, matte navy blue
- siren - sparkly, mermaid tail blue/green
- smog - sparkly, golden medium brown
- woodstock - sparkly hot pink
the brighter shades are especially nice for layering . $18 a tube at urbandecay.com and all other urban decay retailers.
PS - the little ink pots liquid liners are currently on sale for $9 at urbandecay.com. i'm planning to snag a few before they're gone.

john frieda and conair have collaborated on 5 new heated styling tools. this is frieda's first foray into tools, as an adjunct to his extensive styling product line.
the line offers salon quality tools, but what i like is the tools are super affordable (none of the items retail for over $50) and they work so damn fast. at a press event introducing the new products my hair went from straight to curly in under 10 minutes (granted there were two professional stylists working on me, but still -- fast!).
the line sticks to the essentials - a blow dryer, a flat iron, and 3 sizes of curling iron (1", 1 1/2", and 1 1/4"). get all up in it at ulta.com.

clinique welcomes lid smoothie antioxidant 8-hour eye colour this month - 12 new shades of cream shadow. my current favorite thing about them is their cooling applicator - any eye shadow that doesn't cool off my lids is now on the back burner until at least september.
the lid smoothie shades are build-able and can become very intense. my two preferred colors are born freesia (a bright periwinkle) and cute-cumber (a sage green). at the end of the day both colors stayed put (fear not, i wore them on different days, not together) without streaking or fading.
the formula is enriched with antioxidants like vitamin e, broccoli, carrot, blueberry, spinach, cucumber, aloe vera and caffeine -- so, i guess it's good for you? i do think the the cooling + the antioxidants helped decrease my eye swelling.
$19.50 a tube at clinique.com and clinique counters nationwide.

i think it's clear at this point that i'm 100% obsessed with my own eyelashes. lancome shares this affliction - the brand launched their first mascara in 1938 and they have had the luxury mascara market cornered ever since.
their newest formula, hypnose doll lashes mascara, is for the "false doll-lash effect". the fibershine formula creates jet-black, ultra shiny lashes. the conical brush continually seperates the lashes. the mascara can just build and build without clumping.
$25, launching nationwide in september. currently exclusively at dillards.
