estee lauder turbo lash with gold effects.

as part of their holiday collection estee lauder has introduced turbo lash all effects motion mascara with gold effects.

turbo lash with gold effects is a combination of two of my favorite mascara concepts - vibrating mascara and twinkling mascara (the mascara is infused with gold shimmer). is this a marriage made in heaven? well, as a vibrating mascara it's excellent -resulting in long, separated lashes, but as a twinkling mascara the effects are subtle at best. if i look hard i can see a bit of shimmer, but it's definitely not fit for a drag queen.

$32 at esteelauder.com.

my philosophy is that candy corn is better as a body wash.

i love candy corn, but if i eat more than two i get a serious headache. in fact, i'm getting a headache just writing about eating them right now. yet i adore their super-sweet smell -- that autumnal mix of sugar and vanilla . as always, philosophy has found a way to satisfy my craving without the calories (remember my obsession with their black licorice 3-in-1?).

philosophy's i love candy corn high foaming shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath is $16, and doesn't give me a headache or love handles. sold.

blow makes the perfect showercap.

whenever i'm advised not to shampoo everyday i wonder, "but what's the alternative?" the shower caps i've gathered from hotels and the drugstore are so small that the periphery of my hair is bound to be exposed and get moisture-induced frizz...i'd rather just start from scratch.

so, i've been on a bit of a perfect shower cap hunt. and i recently learned that blow has a product called just that -- the perfect shower cap. blow's perfect shower cap is just how i imagined my perfect shower cap - oversized, with a terry liner to absorb shower steam, and printed with a cute pattern. and it's $18 price tag seems reasonable, since you can reuse it everytime you opt not to shampoo.

black lippie comparison - MAC, urban decay and lancome swatches.

i've swatched this season's edgiest trend: black lipstick and black lipglosses. it proves that not all black lipsticks are equal. some are sheer, some are opaque, some are matte and some have colored sparkles(!).

lancome is not currently offering piya black through their website, but urban decay is still carrying oil slick and all the MAC lippies can be found in their style black collection.

can i mix two shades of clairol perfect 10?

can i mix two shades of clairol perfect 10 by nice 'n easy?
short answer: yes. now for the caveats: be sure to pick two colors that are close to each other (i mix "light auburn" and "dark auburn") and that have the same undertone -- warm shades should not be combined with cool shades.

how to mix two clairol perfect 10 shades: set aside the color activating creme from one box (you will only need to use one, but since you bought two hair dye kits you have two). now pour approximately half of the high gloss color creme from your first selected shade (ie: light auburn) into your bottle of color activating creme. take your second shade (ie: dark auburn) and pour half of that high gloss color creme into the same bottle of color activating creme. shake well and apply as usual.
bonus: you now have one color activating creme and half of two tubes of color set aside to use for the next time you want to color your hair.

i've been using this technique to customize my hair color for over a year, and beauties, even hairdressers compliment me on my at-home color.

best concealer. hands down.

beauties, since the beginning of summer i've test-drove quite a few concealers, including:

1. la mer radiant concealer
2. cover fx concealer fx camouflage concealer
3. vapour organic beauty illusionist concealer
4. benefit erase paste

even though benefit's erase paste has very limited shades to chose from (it comes in light, medium and dark), it is the best concealer. hands down.

i wrote about this concealer when i first tried it here. it's creamy, blends in easily, covers anything -- from under eye circles to zits, and last for hours. bonus: it comes with it's own little spatula so you aren't constantly digging your germy fingers into the pot. $26 at sephora.com.

choose swac by purple lab for breast cancer awareness.

breast cancer awareness gets a lot of press in october. which is great in october, but what about the other 11 months of the year?

that's purple lab's s.w.a.c. (sealed with a cure) is my #1 breast cancer awareness month pick. this gloss benefits the triple negative breast cancer foundation not just in october, but anytime you buy it. the plan is to add a new color each year to the s.w.a.c. line, each one named for a woman who has lost her battle with breast cancer.

the inaugural shade is a gloss called nancy - a pink-tinged beige with gold flecks. filled with feel-good vanilla, nancy has a bonus aromatherapy effect. $18.50 at b-glowing.com.

nancy was a friend of the women who started the triple negative breast cancer foundation, and her struggles with this disease inspired her friends to work on raising awareness. triple negative breast cancer is a very aggressive strain and it targets younger women. to learn more about this disease and foundation click here.

halloween makeup how-to video from shu uemura.

principle makeup artist jason hoffman has created two halloween makeup looks for shu uemura this year: lorelei and pele.

the lorelei is inspired by german folklore. the lorelei of legend is a gorgeous siren who dwells on top of a mountain and lures travellers to their deaths with her beautious singing. and to take some of the guesswork out how you could ever re-create these looks, hoffman has created a how-to video for the the lorelei halloween look. after watching it i can't say that i could do this, but i can no longer say it's impossible to do.

shu uemura bonus code: if you decide to pick up any of your halloween make-up supplies from shu enter HALLOWEEN at checkout for a free pair of false eyelashes (worth $25). visit shu-uemura.com to see which products were used for each look.

get gold infused nails - estee lauder's gold and MAC's seriously hip.

news flash: blinged out nails remain hot.

for my manicure this week i chose estee lauder's pure color nail lacquer in gold - an ultra-shiny bronze-hued gold. it catches the light -- and the eyes of everyone in the room.

and for my pedicure i selected MAC's nail lacquer in seriously hip from the style black collection - a black polish with gold particle pearl. the beauty addict says of this color "it looks like you've painted your nails with fool's gold. love it." and i totally agree - it gives your black polish that little extra.

sex & the city 2: look preview.

from the looks of these pics, sex & the city 2 is filled with 80s flashbacks. i think the whole movie should be a flashback! i would way rather see an entire movie about their lives before the series, than one focused on their lives since the first movie.

but on to the beauty: in classic 80s fashion - the bigger the better - for bows, for shoes and for hair. in order to achieve the up-to-there hair terax finishing spray was used on the stars. frank barbosa, the key hairstylist for sex & the city 2 said, "we all love the terax finishing spray on set. it has a nice hold and has been very helpful in creating all of the wild 80’s flashback looks."

terax finishing spray is $18 on beauty.com.

dove's ultimate visibly smooth deodorant.

last week i had my first ever pitacure - a professional arm massage and deodorant application. is this the latest beauty treatment? let's hope not. the pitacure was the kick-off event for the launch of dove's newest product - ultimate visibly smooth anti-perspirant.

like the nivea sun-kissed beautiful legs (blogged about here), dove's ultimate visibly smooth promises to reduce hair growth with consistent application. since i had underarm laser hair removal, i cannot attest to this, but in order to reduce shaving irritation the product is ultra-moisturizing, and i can say that i've reeped this benefit.

available in wild rose and nature fresh, for approximately $7.99 at drugstores nationwide. hint: visit the dove site for a $2 off coupon!

editor's note: in accordance with the ftc regulations, please be advised that this product and pitacure were provided to me by a PR firm who works with this product line.

vaseline sheer infusion for lasting moisture.

fall weather means dry skin.

i avoid lotions that are packed with perfume, opting for products that get the job done right. vaseline's sheer infusion does just that - the scents are non-cloying and the real power is in the hydration capabilities. released this september, sheer infusion uses new sratys three technology to penetrate the surface of skin and make the moisture last for hours to come.

available in three (light!) scents - botanical blend, mineral renewal (my favorite) and vitamin burst. the 6.8 oz runs around $6.25 and the 14.5 oz is only about $8.99 at major drugstores. get rid of your scales, beauties!

nanette by nanette lepore is a religious experience.

last week i stopped by the elizabeth arden red door spa on 5th avenue to meet fashion icon nanette lepore (why is she so much taller than me?!).

ms. lepore introduced me (along with other bloggers) to her newest fragrance, nanette by nanette lepore. the scent has top notes of pink pepper, neroli and glazed rose petals. the heart is composed of rose absolute, violet and muguet and the drydown is punctuated by amber, incense and cedarwood atlas.

the sweet florals and spicy incense are what you really notice with this scent. when asked why she choose incense to play such a prominent role in the new fragrance nanette replied, "i like the memories it invokes. i also want men, when they around you, to feel like it's a religious experience." i'll drink to that!

the new scent is $68 at sephora.com. it's also comes in my personal favorite application method, roller ball for $18.50.
