sampar's prodigal pen is the newest tool in my acne fighting arsenal.
the french are at it again, coming up with brilliant beauty botanicals. the formula is a blend of 8 essential oils - including lavender, sage, savory, rosemary, cinnamon, clove, oregano and thyme - that come together to have strong antibacterial, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties. the pen claims it not only treats blemish irritation, but bug bites, rashes, and razor burns, too.
i can only speak for it's zit busting effects, which are tremendous. it is recommended that you apply it 4-5 times a day on the affected area, but ive only used it 2 times a day (morning and nite) with fantastic results. any zit ive put it on has cleared in less than 24 hours. for real.
bonus: the only english on this little pink tube says "prodigal pen" and "essential oils", so no one will know it's for your pimples. $21 at www.3graces.com, select nordstroms, and spas and salons worldwide.

as far as trends go, if you're not going goth this fall, you're going preppy. since bobbi brown seems like she'd sooner eat an elephant than make a black lipstick, her fall 2009 collection is decidedly in the latter category.
bobbi brown's ivy league collection is all about the pencils -- both lip and eye. bobbi says, “pencils are back in a big way for fall. they’re quick, mistake-proof and can go from subtle to bold in one easy stroke.”

lip crayon: - honeysuckle
- coral pink
- raisin berry
- posey
- dusty nude
- wild rose
creamy eye pencil: - jet
- walnut
- charcoal
- caviar
- hunter
- midnight
- brown plum
- mahogany
- dusk
long-wear gel eyeliner: eyeshadow: - autumn shimmer wash
- bash metallic
brush: available august 2009 on bobbibrown.com and at bobbi brown counters nationwide.

this may be the original makeup saver by skindinavia, but by no means is it the only one.
skindinavia boasts a line of 8(!) makeup finishing sprays (the skindinavians take the setting of one's makeup very seriously):
- mineral makeup finish: controls drying, settling, and shine on mineral foundation.
- 10 years younger makeup finish: keeps makeup hydrated and out of wrinkles.
- no more shine makeup finish: absorbs oil and controls excess shine.
- cool flash makeup finish: chills makeup in warm temperatures (and during hot flashes), avoiding meltdown.

- dance! makeup finish: holds makeup while dancing, clubbing, or performing
- jet set makeup finish: reinvigorates makeup color during travel or active use.

i'm in the process of acquiring a serious bespoke chocolate habit, so why not acquire a bespoke perfume habit while i'm at it? memoire liquide gets at the true definition of signature scent. the line, offered exclusively at studio beautymix in santa monica and bloomingdale's on 3rd ave in nyc, allows the buyer to customize her/his fragrance by chosing their favorite(s) from 160 scent notes.
i chose to mix of tubereuse narcotique and fleur de tabac blond. the exact proportions of my scent were custom-blended by jennifer coe-bakewell (one half of the sister duo that founded memoire liquide), ensuring a perfect balance between sweet and earthy. jennifer has also personally trained the staff at bloomie's in the art of fragrance blending.
for a personalized product, the price is beyond fair - ranging from $32.50-$90 (depending on bottle size size). perhaps the cleverest option is going for a trio - 3 bottles (.25 ounce) of individual scents that you can chose to layer at your leisure - $90.
also, can i get a collective sigh of appreciation for how lovably cute/goth/apothocary-esque the packaging is? thank you.

the vibrating mascara trend has been dominated by high-end brands (lancome, prescriptives, estee lauder), but as of july 2009 it's been brought to the masses.
maybelline's pulse perfection looks similar to the high end versions - the tube and brush have a streamlined look. the oscillating movement is identical to what i've experienced with the more expensive versions -- and i've tried them all, nobody loves a vibrator more than me. the biggest difference? rather than the vibrating happening on it's own as soon as you open the cap, you have to hold a button down on the cap of the maybelline version. pulse perfection available for $14.95 at drugstores and supermarkets nationwide. it comes in two washable shades, very black and blackest black, and one waterproof shade, very black. the battery is guaranteed to last a minimum of 130 applications, or around 4 months worth of daily applications. for more info visit maybelline.com.

the divado may look like a rubber boob, but it's so much more useful than that.
if you love retro, voluminous hair styles, reminiscent of audrey hepburn and brigette bardo (divado has two different-shaped inserts inspired by, and named for, these two ladies), the divado is for you. it helps you achieve these looks without having to tease your hair into a damaged mess.
the divado is sold at divadohair.com - $25 for the audrey, $30 for the brigette -- but, enter promo code: mulm20 at checkout to receive 20% off. and, i'm giving 3 away, enter below. who hooks you up, beauties?! but enter by midnite on sunday (07/26/09). otherwise, like a ghost, they'll be gone.
personal anecdote: this saturday, rather than teasing my hair to pump up the volume, i inserted the divado (brigette) before heading to my friend's bachelorette party. it was super easy (follow the picture instructions at the top), the style held up all nite, and there was no need to deep condition/repent sunday morning. and i think it looked just as good, if not better, than when i tease the sh*t out of it -- what do you think?

enjoy your weekend, beauties! i'm hope you are heading to the beach, like me. since i'm a terrible packer i've created a quick beach bag list to reference before running out the door.
the mlm top 5 guide of what to pack in your beach bag:
- club soda – the hydrating effects of water, and the fizzy fun of soda, without the calories. plus, red door spas' color director, brad johns, recommends using it post-pool, to help remove chlorine from hair and prevent warping of colored hair.
- sunscreen -- preferably at least an spf 30. even if you put it on in the morning, you'll need to reapply throughout the day.
- aftersun care- saved me last weekend. i put clinique aftersun rescue balm with aloe on as soon as i got on the train home, and, true story -- it stopped my burn from peeling. substitute with vaseline's aloe fresh hydrating body lotion for the budget-savvy.
- cherries – i've seen cherries in every color and flavor - from tart to sweet, being sold on the street in the last couple of weeks. they are easy to pop in you mouth and red door spas' chief creative officer, cornelia zicu, recommends them for their high level of vitamin b, which helps to keep the skin and scalp healthy.
- sunglasses – you will be miserable if you forget these, beauties. all of your careful packing will be wasted if you spend the day squinting away. i'm partial to my new andrea jovine pair.
neon stitch chain tote bag, top shop, $20.

at $34, anew is literally 1/10 of the price of le soin noir. available through the avon site.

you know a company has a good product when they specialize in just one thing and are able to stay in business.
havaianas doesn't need to make stilettos, because they make a damn good flip flop. such is the story of cover fx, their whole makeup line is devoted to coverage and camouflage. it's all "face" - no lips, eyes, cheeks, etc - because they do it best.
last nite there was a chance that chuck bass and i would be at the same party (and yes, i know he's called ed westwick when he's not on the gossip girl set, but i prefer chuck bass). since i needed my skin to look as blemish-free as blair waldorf's, i sensed my usual prescriptive's tinted moisturizer - much as i love it - wasn't going to cut it.
i needed a strong foundation. cover fx is renowned for it's use in hollywood - their makeup is a staple on film and music video sets. it was even used to conceal angelina jolie's tattoos in mr. & mrs. smith, so i figured it would probably be a fair opponent for my dark circles and imperfections.
they didn't let me down, the natural fx water based foundation (in shade C40, rose wheat) transformed my skin from somewhat flawed into a beautiful canvas of dewy, natural-looking flawlessness. unfortunately, i learned this morning that i left the party 5 minutes before c. bass arrived. all was not lost though, my "great skin" earned me compliments throughout the evening.
cover fx natural fx water based foundation is available in 24 shades at sephora stores, sephora.com and select nordstrom's for $45.

the high-light powder from MAC's naked honey collection (released in june) is just pretty enough.
the embossed honeycomb pattern makes the compact fun to look at, but it's not so ornate that it makes me afraid to use it out of fear that i'm ruining a precious work of art.
it's also just shimmery enough. there are two shades - honey light and golden nectar. i have golden nectar, which gives the user a golden bronze shimmer highlight (perfect for cheeks and above eyebrows), without making them looking like bruno.
$24.50, and still available at maccosmetics.com.

emmanuelle chriqui is finally getting the attention she deserves.
known to entourage fans as sloan, chriqui is featured in the july/august issue of women's health. i love a raven-tressed beauty, especially a pint-sized one (chriqui is 5'3). these are three beauty tips she shared which i think are particularly delightful quotes:
1. “never reveal your insecurities to a man, because 9 times out of 10 they have no idea they even exist. most guys are not as observant as women are.”
2. "for the record: i wear makeup. all. the. time. but I do it in a way that looks natural. my skin is blotchy, and I'm mediterranean—i've got dark circles. so i need foundation and concealer. one thing I swear by is armani silk foundation. it offers coverage, but it breathes, so people never think i'm wearing makeup. for under my eyes, i use touche eclat by yves saint laurent, which i love because it's moisturizing and creamy and blends into my skin without getting cakey. i also wear a bronzer—cargo and nars have great sun-kissed colors—just to give a little depth to my cheeks."
3. "i would say that my favorite part of my face is my eyes. i have very long lashes, but they're not thick, so when i apply mascara—i love l'oreal voluminous—suddenly my eyes are transformed. it's cool. i've also learned a few eye makeup tricks. for example, highlight your brow bone to give your eyes a more wide-open look. also, as you're applying mascara, twirl the brush—from the root [to the ends]—so the color covers the whole lash for a fuller look."

as kim kardashian says, "cellulite is not cute". i couldn't agree more, kim.
but if you are "little in the middle but you got much back" (for those of you unacquainted with sir mix-a-lot, that means bigger in the butt and thighs region), cellulite is often an unfortunate side effect of having such a shape.
this summer, i've discovered my best cellulite cure yet -- with the silliest name to boot. hippie rehab's lypo pallooza (i warned you) is a two step kit.
- opening act is a vitamin supplement that acts as an antioxidant and a diuretic - cleaning the body of toxins and excess fluids. the kit recommends you take two pills twice a day, i say only do that if you are constantly near a bathroom. i will say this, it works (dangerously well).
- headliner, the second step, is a cream that you rub liberally on the cellulite-d area, up to 3 times a day. this is my favorite step, because if i use it the night (before the beach) i wake up with my thighs looking noticably firmer.
the kit is normally $89.99 at hippierehab.com, but they are on sale for $79.99. since i've been manically addicted to this set this summer (seriously, if it wasn't so gross i would show you a before and after pic of my thighs), i figured i should share the good word while the price was on redux. look hot this summer, beauties!

essie single-handedly pioneered the neon purple nail trend.
last summer they released bermuda shorts - a "high-voltage violet", and the unique color was met with a surprising cult following. perhaps in response to the market's demand for a purple neon, this summer's neon collection from essie included an updated version, perky purple - an "electric boogie violet".
but how different are the two shades? well, on my top nail i'm wearing perky purple and my bottom i'm sporting bermuda shorts.
both have a matte finish without top coat (which is how they are featured here), but perky is definitely more purple, whereas bermuda has a lighter, more magenta hue.
