my favorite shampoo for dye-ing girls just keeps evolving!
first, redken's color extend reformulated to enhance shine. now, the line has a satellite, color extend sun, meant to prevent and correct sun's detrimental effects on color.
rodney cutler, owner of cutler/redken salons says, "at our salon in miami, we often see clients with damaged hair form being out in the sun or water. many of them are not aware that they can protect and correct existing damage with the right products! it's essential to protect your hair while out in the sun!"
my red color gets messed up extra-fast in the sun -- so it looks like i'm switching formulas again!
products available include color extend after-sun shampoo ($13), color extend after-sun mask ($15), color extend sun sparkling shield ($16). check redken.com for salons carrying these products.
borba gummi bears are a taste-ament to that fact that eating your way to awesome skin doesn't have to taste gross- it can be delicious!
they are made with skin powerhouse ingredients such as acai (that mysterious amazon fruit that is popping up in all things skin-related), green tea extract and grape seed extract. and they taste better than regular gummi bears. if you want your skin to be fly, just switch from whatever you currently eat for dessert to these. that's my current plan.
1 sack of borba gummi bears contains 136 bears for $25. the recommended dose is at least 6/day, not to exceed a whole bag. this seems doable, as long as keep them away from your drunk friends. seriously.

my friend stefanie and i are trying to accommodate the change in seasons while looking our best, so we agreed to try out glowelle beauty drink together. the idea is easy enough, all you have to do is add a powdered packet to your water (looks like crystal lite) and drink up, X 7 days. then, your skin is supposed to glow, glow, glow - like the sheen you'd get if you were on a diet of salmon and almonds.
my flavor was pomegranate lychee. stefanie tried the raspberry jasmine flavor. both of them tasted good enough, but had a bitter aftertaste, which stefanie described as "like antibiotics". her latest text to me on our glowelle challenge read like this "ohmygosh! this glowelle drink is officially gross tasting. one more day! hows your skin? my skin does seem a bit more radiant..."
at the end of my 7 day challenge, my skin is a bit more radiant as well - but the 7 day kit costs $40, enough to have bought groceries and enjoyed a few healthy meals of salmon and almonds, which probably would've had a better aftertaste. the only chance i'd do this again is if a had a huge occasion coming up - like my wedding, or funeral.
Jamie and Mother Blogger of Girl-Woman-Beauty-Brains-Blog discovered a plethora of earth-friendly products for Earth Week: Tees for Change, Kiss My Face (plus a giveaway), and much more.
Good news for fans of Stila! Beauty Junkies Unite finds out after a month of bankruptcy rumors, the makeup brand has been sold and should be back in business soon!
Only one week left to enter the giveaway hosted by More than a Pretty Face for all nine shades of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics' newly launched Lip Tar collection. Lip Tar sold out at its launch at The Makeup Show in NYC last month.
yesterday MAC released the collosal rose romance, a collection that balances bright spring pinks with wearable color. in this massive and beautious collection, there is something for everyone who wants to capture the romance of the flowers in bloom and trees a-budding.
"A tradition in haute couture, an enduring Icon of Love and certainly the only flower acceptable to throw on stage at the Met or clench between teeth in a Buenos Aires tango salon, the rose remains beyond reproach. MAC creates a very modern Rose Romance, a lovely new color collection for the summer season. Spring buds blush in fragrant new hues when Just A Pinch Gel Blush debuts; Fit + Rose refreshes; and our bring-back favourite fragrance, Creations Hue: Dejarose whispers anew...BUT WITH GREAT BEAUTY THERE IS ALWAYS PASSION AND PERIL...MIND THE THORNS!"
thecollectionincludes several products that i've been looking everywhere for:
et tu bouquet eyeshadow (frosted pale pink gold) - the perfect amount of brightness and shine for a daytime shadow.
see thru lip color in secret crush (sheer red berry) - i'm pretty sure this is the same lip stain as the limited edition emanuel ungaro not so shy! lipstain.
fix + rose - i love a good h2o spray to set my makeup. and i love the smell of roses. done and done.
nail lacquer in love and friendship(creamy dirty midtoned lavender) - a cool semi-opaque pink polish is in high demand this spring. and this one fits the bill quite nicely.
i'm catching up on this week's new gossip girl and that dan humphrey quips like no other ("cater waiter at a seder!" ha!).
i also caught the commercial for gossip girl: real nyc stories revealed, hosted by jessica szhor. the show will premier this coming monday. i went to a preview party for this show last week and i'm curious to see how it will turn out. it's a micro-series during the commercial breaks of gossip girl that chronicles the lives of real upper east side girls.
the series is sponsered by dove, a la last spring's alicia keys series during the hills.
not only did i refill my tinted moisturizer at bergdorf's today, i finally got the custom blend concealer. i have now tried the entire custom blend line, and i love it - especially the skin products. plus, i now have a concealer that perfectly matches my base.
i also got a preview of the prescriptives summer line - stay tuned for details on that, beauties!
this is my all-time - if i'm play that game where you are on a desert island but you can only have one article of makeup (i do not think this is a very fun or fair game, btw) - i would be sitting on that island with my tinted moisturizer. i wear it daily - but i don't go overboard so it lasts about 9 months. available at prescriptives counters nationwide. have you been colorprinted?
ps - in the spirit of earth day, i'm bringing back my old bottle and having it refilled!
i've gotten a little too into the phrase "bikini ready" lately. at first i was using it appropriately (as a reason i wasn't having a second dessert), but i've started using it to describe just about anything (my friend's dog's collar).
my obsession with "bikini ready"should lead me to start exercising more, but i'm taking this one step at a time. so instead of hitting the gym, i'm working on my tan and hitting the jergen's natural glow foaming daily moisturizer. it's a foaming (though just barely, mine is definitely not a mousse in texture) moisturizer that builds a gradual tan. i'm hoping to look naturally bronze by may.
and what does all this have to do with rachel bilson? the former o.c. starlet has vowed to "glow in the dark" this summer (meaning, get a tan appearance without using the sun, get it?). this is the second summer that jergens is hosting it's glow in the dark campaign - to motivate and remind women about avoiding cancerous sun exposure - always a good idea.

today was one of those beautiful, remember-why-i-love-nyc days. this morning i busted open my sample tube of bond no. 9's new fragrance, astor place, and it couldn't have been a better fit for the day - a blend of fresh spring and nyc.
astor place is heavy with freesia, red poppy buds and violet leaf, coupled with teakwood and musk. it smells like the spring bouquets i keep eying at every korean grocer i pass, but have resolved not to buy for myself.
this spring, everything's coming up coral at target. their hit felix rey for target line included two gorgeously coral-ated bags (see all felix rey for target here) and now sonia kushuk's spring treasures 2009 limited edition line is chocked full of coral.
the line includes:
treasure chest bag - $12.99 hidden treasure brush set - $21.99 coral reef highlighter brush - $9.99 pink sands highlighting powder - $12.99 how to create the freshness of spring cosmetic palette - $19.99
the treasure chest bag and hidden treasure brush set are going to be in my tote all summer long - they are ideal beach weekend accompaniments. i'm just worried my mom will try to steal them when she visits, as she's a coral fan(atic).
to celebrate my day off i got my nails did with some of my friends from school. mara (remember her? she wrote this post) and i got french-style manicures with pink-and-metallic glitter (instead of white) tips.
i got a hot fuschia with gold glitter and mara got a coral pink with silver glitter (and an engagement ring! last week her boyfriend put a ring on it - congrats mara!).
i'm sort of loving the early 90's nail art flashback. et tu?
i've found my "happy medium" eye liner. i love eye liner - and i really love glittery eyeliners. i always get tons of compliments on them, but they aren't always appropriate (or so i've been told).
so, i'm found myself an eyeliner that's still eye catching, but a bit more subtle. it hails from lancome's spring 2009 collection, pink irreverence. le crayon khol waterproof in rebellious berry may not be one of the most talked about pieces from the pink irreverence collection, but it's wonderful. it's just enough to make people stop and take a second look.
berry, as it turns out, it a great shade for eye liner. especially for you blue and grey-eyed beauties (like me!). $23.50 at lancome.com.
china glaze's summer collection, kicks, is inspired by bright sneaker colors. the result? 12 bright new shades that looks like what would happen if skittles became nail polish.
i tried on a few shades to decide which would be easter-worthy. there are 3 orange shades in the collection and i love them all. orange nails are a definite summer favorite.
from left to right: entourage, paper chasing, sky high-top, breakin', and style wars.
i finally settled on "fly", seen in the lower pic. see them all at chinaglaze.com.
i was fairly anxious about using clairol's nice 'n easy root touch up because i usually mix light auburn and dark auburn when i color my hair, but in this case i had to choose one. i went with light auburn.
the box stated over and over that it would match my shadeexactly, which seemed like an outrageous claim. i got to mixing my trough of color and spreading it through my roots, all the while thinking, "the things i do for mlm!". but, it's true! at least for me, my roots match my hair perfectly.
who knows how the wizards at clairol do it, but if you're betwixt salon visits, you may want to holla at clairol's nice 'n easy root touch up, typically under $10 at drugstores nationwide.
sometimes men wander into my purse, unfortunately.
an unsuspecting guy friend goes looking for a piece of gum and ends up digging through 30 lipsticks and, in the worst case scenerio, other girly things he should not be privy to. the former cannot be helped, i legitimately need 30 lipsticks on any given day, but i've found a solution to the latter.
the tres femme girlie tube looks like it should house a cigar, but its girl-ified -light pink and bejeweled. so girl-ifried that a snooping guy friend would never dare open it. thus, saving himself and me much mortification.
this is also the perfect gift for those adolescent girls who are always so tricky (and who i have never personally had to get any gifts for). $13 for a plain lid, $18 for jeweled lid at tres-femme.com.
shu uemura's caught my eye with their pink collection -- all pink lip color. rouge unlimited pink collection consists of 9 vibrant pink lipsticks and gloss unlimited pink collection contains 5 glosses. plus, there are 3 duo sets - in soft and pale, in warm and sheer, and in hot pink.
the new lip colors use pink hybrid pigment, a shu uemura exclusive find that creates bright, pure color.
i'm all about the soft lavender pink rouge unlimited. if you've been trying to find the perfect way to way to capture the milky lavender lip trend, stop looking and head to shu.
in fact, no matter what your skin tone or pink needs are this spring, i'm pretty sure the pink collection has you covered - visit it at shuuemura-usa.com.
"kings, kings, kings - we will always be together forever in dark stormy weather"
this is the start of cheer i used to sing every summer at camp. for the past few days i've been using kings & queens showergel and spontaneously cheering in the shower. eery? perhaps - but i've enjoyed the repressed memories it's brought the forefront of my brain.
i've always been intrigued by kings & queens bright packaging and spicy-sounding scents, but when i saw their royal favorites set was only $8 to try five scents, i knew i had to give kings & queens a whirl. i should mention i love travel size anything - who doesn't love a minature?
the kit includes mini bottles of the following:
nefertiti honey showergel
chinese princess jasmine showergel
queen isabella cinnamon orange showergel
emperor akbar mango showergel
sultan of granada lemon flower showergel
i'm thinking my next q & k purchase will be the queen isabella cinnamon orange showergel - i'm lovin' it. you get your own royal favorites set online at drugstore.com, $8!

vaseline has done something very clever - they've come out with a lotion line just for men. this is great, because men need lotion, but they loathe grooming products that are not explicitly labeled as for the male species. i've been a little quiet with you beauties about the new man in my life, but i can't hold back anymore. i discovered this lotion in his bag and the light sandalwood scent has me meserized. i've so far refrained from using the lotion myself, but the scent is so good that i might have to start sneaking it.
at $5.99 for the largest size, why not get one for you and the man in your life? or learn more about the line here.
urgent: disregard any other time i might have told you, "my lipgloss is poppin'." i sincerely regret having not saved that phrase for the perfect moment - when prescriptives created it's mineral lip gloss.
i have the the amber mineral lip gloss and i'm planning to wear it to the beach all summer long. it gives bronze lips with high wattage glitter shine. my lips are radiantly surreal in it. $17.50 at prescriptives.com and prescriptives counters nationwide.
beauties, please welcome a guest-post from my beautiful (and getting prettier by the minute) friend, mara!
this spring i'm doing my best to get pleasantly plump... tresses, that is! my hair's fattening regimen includes sedentary lifestyle, increased caloric intake, and of course, got2b's new fat-tastic thickening plumping mousse.
we've seen it before with lip products and moisturizer, but this is the first hair product to use collagen technology to lush-ify your locks. i prefer the mousse alone for a softer look, but if you've just got to have some fix with your fat, there's also a thickening non-aersol hairspray. at just $5.99, these are a got2have for recessionistas wanting to live fat-tastic on a skinny budget!
season change, long work days (i know, i know, i said i'd shut up about that), and suddenly, i'm dandruff city.
in a desperate panic, i found some garnier fructis (a brand name i find to be totally unwieldy, btw) anti-dandruff shampoo in my closet! i tried it for two days, problem not resolved.
i knew i had to get to my dandruff go-to for times of hair-snow crisis, head & shoulders. what i about h&s is that they are a dandruff shampoo, but on top of that they focus on hair needs - like volume or shine - that consumers may want. yeah, i don't want dandruff, but i also want to knock people out with my shine. hence, i'm partial to the smooth &shiny formula. if you're snowing this spring, get some h&s therapy.
