look like kim kardashian - with affordable fake lashes.

thanks to the popularity of doe-eyed looks like kim kardashian's, fake eyelashes are becoming an everyday beauty necessity. now that i'm wearing false lashes every weekend my penchant for pricey false lashes had to be downsized.

luckily, i've discovered two mass brand faux lash delights - tropez and revlon. both make flirty lashes and revlon even has some more artful picks. my friend dawn is wearing revlon's "blue shadow" lashes in this picture.

oh, and the application of both is fairly easy (though if you are confused about fake lash application see my tutorial) - my straight guy friend put dawn's on for her! now you have no excuse not to share my love for faux lashes, beauties.

dry, and tangled, and in desperate need of a cut. and my fantastic days at the beach are only making it worse! i've booked a stat appointment for a cut with calli over at xac anthony to occur as soon as i get home.

but in the mean time, i've taken up with aveda's dry remedy line, filled with the healing power of buriti oil. i even used to the treatment masque. it must be doing something for me, because last nite someone said, "you have the most beautiful hair." ha!

simply face & body spa - a membership spa.

trend to watch: membership spas.

how it works: members pay a monthly fee (typically around the cost of one spa service) and receive a free service each month, plus discounted rates on additional services.

who this works for: anyone who gets a facial or massage once a month.

the case study: simply face & body - a new division of red door spa holdings - in ramsey, nj (with more locations coming soon).

simply face & body is hooked on being affordable - facials are $79 for non-members and $49 for members - while still offering high quality.

i went to check it out for myself -- and the quality was better than i've received at places where i've paid twice the price! my massage was the most relaxing and thorough on my life - i was so tranquil, i couldn't even understand english afterwards. my facial included the usual steaming, masks, cleansing and massaging, plus extraction and high frequency treatment (a cutting edge technology which kills bacteria under the surface).

and, the spa is totally green! from the paint on their walls to the products that go on your face. they use only organically-certified face and body skincare from juice beauty and pangea organics.

simply face & body debuted on january 23, 2009 at the interstate shopping center in ramsey, nj. learn more about their offerings by calling 877-57-SIMPLY or online at simplyfaceandbody.com.

wet n wild (!) mega eyes defining marker.

so you've heard me say, "i don't care for those sharpie style black eyeliners" (if you haven't heard me say this, but would like to click here),

but if you must get one, i've finally found one i actually like! it comes out a dark true black, and you'll never guess who makes it - wet n wild! i haven't bought a wet n wild product since i used their brown eyeliner as lip liner in middle school (yes, i thought it looked good, and face it, you did too).

mega eyes defining marker works great, and since it's wet n wild, it's $3.99 - so no economic downturn can keep you away from the cat-eye you deserve. meow on, beauties!

MAC's sugarsweet.

beauties, i'm at the airport, about to jet-set to florida for a few days (spring break '09! - but don't worry, i plan to update mlm plenty, because i have a lot to say). but before i go anywhere, i needed to tell you about MAC's sugarsweet collection. every once and a while MAC does something so colorful, fresh, and bright that it makes my heart races when i look at it. and as a devout dessert worshipper, sugarsweet does it for me.

the whole collection is filled with pearly pastel glaze - so spring! - which translates best in the shadestick. i have red velvet (frosted mid-tone pink) and it gave me genuine barbie lips - seriously it looked like i stole the lips right off that doll - all matte and frosty and bright bright bright.

i could go on and on and list every item in the collection, but i have a plane to catch -- and even though the launch date isn't until this thursday (3/19/08) it's already up on maccosmetics.com. so check it out and let me know if you find it as intriguing as i do!

the venus embrace razor - 5X the blades.

when will enough blades be enough? that is the question i find myself asking while looking at my new 5 blade venus embrace razor. the answer seems to be, never. newer and more blade-filled razors come out each year, defying the laws of physics in the name of smoothness.

now i'm not saying this is a bad thing, i love my venus embrace -- it's keeping me out of the prickly pear zone and then some - any razor with less than two blades gets me to be to prickly pear by 3pm.

what i really love about this razor is the protective ribbon of moisture surrounding the blades. it making shaving gel obsolete - i can just wet my legs and use the venus embrace sans further lubrication.

venus embrace is available at food, drug, grocery and mass merchandise stores with suggested retail price of $11.99, including the refillable razor, two cartridges, and showerpod.

profound beauty's structure luxe cream

profound beauty's structure luxe cream ($35.00) is called "liquid gold" by stylists because of it's incredible styling memory. it's is a modern version of a classic setting lotion used to create glamorous body, waves, and curls.

i've got the super-straightest hair in all the land -- so finding a product that really pumps volume and holds for hours is a challenge - but after hearing the hype, i wanted to give structure luxe cream a try. this product seriously gave me the best blow-out of my life. all you have to do is apply a quarter-sized amount to hair and blow-dry upside down with a round brush and va-vavoom!

profound feauty is available online at www.profoundbeauty.com and in nyc at the yves durif salon in the carlyle hotel.

redken's color extend has been reformulated.

my favorite shampoo/conditioner duo for those of us with a dye addiction has been reformulated! redken's color extend line has gotten a makeover.

normally i think "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is a motto more brands should adapt but in this case reformulating was a good thing. it's still the only product line that stops the red dye from washing out of my hair every two weeks, but now it's got some extras. UVA and UVB agents now prevent my auburn locks for environmental damage. cranberry oil ups the shine and ceramide gives it strength.

but, it still smells the same, still feels the same, and still looks the same - and most importantly it still protects my color the same. though, i have noticed my hair is a little more shiny lately. shampoo - $13, conditioner - $14, color extend rich recovery (actually my favorite product in the line) - $15. learn more at redken.com.

olay body wash plus tone enriching ribbons.

beauties - the weather has been crazy here in nyc. it's hot then it's cold, it's yes then it's no, it's in then it's out, it's up then it's down. true story.

as a result my skin is freaking out - and needs to be babied. and the best way to be baby one's skin is moisturize while cleansing. olay body wash plus tone enriching ribbons is super rich, so it doesn't take any moisture away from my skin in the act of cleansing. on top of that it has very fine particles of mineral shimmer - so on the warmer days ,where i'm showing a bit more skin, that skin is radiant.

olay body wash plus tone enriching ribbons suggested retail price is $3.99 for 10 oz. and $5.99 for 18 oz. (bargain!) at durgstores nationwide.

tresemme, ooh la la!

during fashion week TRESemmé invited their style and beauty consultant, erin anderson, to give some of their favorite beauty bloggers some tips on how hair styles were created for the fall 2009 runway shows.

so i, in turn, can share with you, the wisdom on two very cute hair looks. i actually followed the steps for the second one for dinner last nite and was very pleased with results.

this parted, low ponytail was created for the tracy reese show. the inspiration was a young girl coming-of-age and discovering art in paris. first on damp hair, spray roots with TRESemmé 24 hour body root boost then layer with TRESemmé 24 hour body foaming mousse, applying from root to ends. rough blow-dry, then it's curled with a 3/4" inch iron, finger combed and clipped with a barrette at the nape of the neck.

this second look was created for william rast, with a rocker girl as the muse. it involves TRESemmé 24 hour body sculpting spray gel in damp hair. then hair is put up in little buns and flashed with the blow dryer. once it is completely dry the buns are taken out and hair is finished with TRESemmé 24 hour body finishing spray. very serena van der woodsen!

beam laser spa final results.

if it's been a bit quiet here about the progress of my underarm laser hair removal at beam laser spa for the last few months, it's only because it's been going so smoothly it was hard to remark on.

but in bittersweet news, friday was my last appointment. i'm officially cured of underarm hair! while getting lasered was mildly painful at times, it never hurt more than waxing and i never had any lasting redness from the appointments.

the way the phone was ringing in the few minutes i was waiting for my final appointment, you'd never know we were in a recession. it seems like the rest of nyc is discovering these hair removal experts just in time to start prepping for summer. to join the ranks, visit them at beamlaserspa.com or call 212.245.2577.

and in order to immortalize my time at beam i've added a perma-link in the tool bar on the right (sites to see) - so it will always be just a click away.

maybelline's lash stiletto is my latest accessory.

i'm having a sort of moment with mascara lately. i keep finding better and better ones - it's probably astrological. "when venus is in retrograde, geminis will have unexpected luck with lash enhancers."

maybelline's newest mascara, lash stiletto, is my latest find. the maybelline site says "the grip & extend brush grasps each lash and coats them from every angle" and i agree - it really gets those little lashes. plus, the formula is exceedingly light - it leaves absolutely no clumps. so it looks like i just have super curly, long, natural lashes - the kind of lashes i might find myself coveting on others, if i were the sort of person who got jealous about those things...

best yet, it's a drugstore brand, so not only is it more affordable than most other stilettos, its also more affordable than most other mascaras. i've spotted it for $7.49 at drugstore.com. lash out, beauties!

KN lounge sock giveway!

i'm having another giveaway - how much are you loving mlm right now? i know it's quickly becoming one of my favorite websites!

to celebrate spa day (which was last week, so i'm a bit behind on this), i'm giving away a pair of KN karen neuburger chenille lounge socks.

if you've been at-homing spa-ing lately (aka recessionista living) these socks are for you. the thing i miss most about getting pedicures is having super soft feet. get soft feet back by covering your feet in an ultra-thick lotion, putting these socks on and heading to bed (sounds easy, yes?). then, just wake up to pillow-soft feet.

how to enter: email makeuplovesmecontests[at]gmail[dot]com and tell me your best at-home spa trick. all entries must be received by thursday (3/5/08) at 8pm est

stripe lounge socks by KN karen neuburger retail for $15 and are available at karenneuburger.com.

oh - and don't forget there is still one day left to enter the olay/bruce greyson's favs giveaway (click here for the details) and that three more contests are coming your way in the next week and a half - so don't be a stranger.

suki pure skin care is my new religion.

did you read the title? suki is my re-li-gion. i think that says it all - but i'll elaborate.

over the weekend i got a request for a follow-up on my suki-fied skincare regimen (read here to get the background story) - which reminded me to tell all of you that i am absolutely loving the suki. i know i've been busy with fashion week -- but i seriously don't know how i could've been keeping this from you this long!

i am using the suki exfoliate foaming cleanser ($29.95) and facial lift ultimate firming cream ($150) from the suki spa line as my morning routine. i can honestly say i dont think my skin has ever looked better. the other day my guy friend asked me if i had either "gotten more sleep or gotten pregnant" because my face was glowing.

i'm going to assume that that comment is both:
a. a compliment
and
b. a testiment for how amazing suki is

suki pure skin care is all about organic, vegan and fair trade - so in addition to making me look great it's making earth look pretty, too. get glowing at sukipure.com.
