nail files: the half moon.

trends in nails this fall are more distinct than they have been in seasons. my favorite trend is the half moon manicure. it's basically a french manicure upside-down cake. the little white "moons" at the base of the nail are exaggerated with white polish.

this was all over the runway and has recently be spotted on glamor queens like dita von teese and me! (see picture above). even though i choose a light pink for mine, the half-moon can come in a variety of colors, and is particularly beautiful with a rich red. unlike the french manicure bold colors are also encouraged.

an even more complex variation on this manicure involves combining this technique with the french manicure; for a nail that's white on both ends. achieving even the first look is not simple (my manicure took well over an hour), but i think it's fun. what do you think? do you like it?

Nice job though I would prefer it with dark tips for more contrast. Just my preference. What did you use as a guide? Or did you freehand it?

The original moon manicure created in the 20s was with white tips and white half moon, like what was shown at the Dior Couture show a couple months ago. The half moon didn't come along until the 30s and 40s and that's the look I prefer. You'd have to grow your nails out so long to do the original version. Otherwise they'd look striped.
